MÁLAGA, 6 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
Teba, a municipality in Malaga, will celebrate its traditional Pilgrimage of the Virgin of the Head and San Isidro Labrador from May 10th to 12th. A diverse program of activities has been organized, ranging from religious events to folklore, including contests for the decoration of facades, floats, and carts. As a prelude to the pilgrimage, on Thursday, May 9th at 7:30 pm, a floral offering and the awarding of distinctions to new members will take place at the Church of the Holy Royal Cross.
The Vice President of Culture and Education of the Diputación de Málaga, Manuel López Mestanza, highlighted the two significant values of the Teba Pilgrimage. ”Firstly, the residents who meticulously prepare this celebration to enjoy the camaraderie as in the past; and secondly, the stunning landscape enhanced by the recent rains and the devotion of the residents and surrounding towns,” he noted. The press conference was attended by the Mayor of Teba, Cristóbal Corral.
On Friday, starting at noon, the 2024 Pilgrimage will commence, and the beach bars will open on the Puente esplanade. Later, at 8:30 pm, a mass for pilgrims will be held at the Church of the Holy Royal Cross. In the evening, from 11 pm onwards, performances by the Ortigosa Brothers, the IPop group, and DJs will entertain until the early hours of the morning.
On Saturday, starting at 11 am, the main event of the celebration begins with a procession of carts, floats, and horsemen through the streets of the town towards the banks of the Guadalteba River.
This procession, lasting almost the entire day, starts with the departure of San Isidro Labrador and the Virgin of the Head, who meet on the way and head towards the Church of the Holy Royal Cross. Once there, after saying the Angelus prayer, they depart for the Puente to reach the Lucero Mill at 2 pm.
Lunch is enjoyed together at Casilla Vallejo, and at 6 pm, they head back to the Puente, arriving at 7 pm, to commemorate the pilgrim of the year. At the Puente, from 11:00 pm, there will be music by the Dynamic orchestra, the Pop FM group, and DJs.
Sunday’s activities will begin at 1 pm with a performance by the children’s group ’Mimosín’ and at 5 pm by the Luna de Plata group. Additionally, there will be contests for the decoration of facades, floats, and carts, as well as equestrian displays. All these categories have cash prizes.
