In a bid to promote sustainability and raise awareness about the impact of plastic waste on the marine ecosystem, Fuengirola Town Hall has introduced fish-shaped structures along the town’s coastline. These structures serve as collection points for plastic waste, allowing visitors to actively participate in keeping the beaches clean.
The initiative, spearheaded by Mayor Ana Mula and councillor for Urban Ecology, José Sánchez, aims to highlight the importance of environmental conservation in a popular tourist destination like Fuengirola. The town has already received recognition for its sustainable practices, with all beaches awarded S Flags for Sustainability and ISO 14.0001 certification for beach conservation efforts.
Sculpted by artist Carlos Otal, the 3-meter-long and 1.7-meter-high fish sculptures are strategically placed on each of the town’s four beaches. As the structures fill up with plastic waste, they serve as a visual reminder of the long-lasting impact of non-biodegradable materials on the environment.
Visitors to Fuengirola can now actively contribute to preserving the beauty of the coastline by utilizing these unique collection points for plastic waste. Join us in protecting our oceans and promoting sustainability during your stay in this picturesque coastal town.
