MÁLAGA, 4 May. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The County Council proposes a varied program of cultural activities this week with concerts, theater, documentaries, literary presentations, and a talk on the history of Malaga.
On Wednesday, May 8, the presentation concert of the album ’The Boulanger Sisters: Past, Present, and Future’ will be held at the MVA.
A day later, on May 9, the documentary on apnea ’The Deepest Inspiration’ will be screened at the MVA, and at the Cánovas Library, a new session of the ’Eternal Malaga’ cycle on the history of Malaga will take place.
On Friday, May 10, there will be a triple event with the performance of ’The Marquis of the Navas,’ an unpublished work by Lope de Vega, at the MVA; the presentation of the book ’The Bubble Planet’ at the Cánovas Library, and the first session of the classical music cycle ’Pocket Classics’ in Tolox.
In addition, the Cánovas del Castillo Library continues to hold its writing workshop for young people, with a new session on Tuesday, May 7, and on May 9, the workshop ’The Order of Horacio Tempus’ concludes, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the publication of ’Momo’ by Michael Ende. Both activities will take place at 6:00 p.m., and registrations to participate can be made by calling 952 133 962 or emailing bibcanovas@malaga.es, as indicated by the Malaga County Council in a statement.
ACTIVITIES
The first proposal will take place on Wednesday, May 8, at the MVA with the official presentation of the album ’The Boulanger Sisters: Past, Present, and Future.’ It will be at 8:30 p.m., and tickets can be reserved from 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 6, at mientrada.net.
This album, presented at the County Council last January, reviews the influence on the history of music of the sisters Nadia and Lili Boulanger through works by Lili Boulanger, the French mentors of the two sisters, and the disciples of Nadia Boulanger, all adapted for the Municipal Band of Music of Malaga by the director and composer from Malaga, Silvia Olivero Anarte.
On the other hand, on Thursday, May 9, the documentary ’The Deepest Inspiration’ will be screened at the MVA, following apnea diver Alessia Zecchini in her descent to what she describes as ”the last quiet place on Earth.” The screening will be at 8:30 p.m., with free admission until full capacity is reached.
The Italian champion is determined to set a new world record in apnea, an extreme and dangerous sport in which competitors try to reach the greatest depth without using diving equipment.
Meanwhile, Irishman Stephen Keenan is considered the best assistant safety diver in the world. The lives of Alessia and Stephen were destined to cross. This documentary directed by the British Laura McGann tells their story, which is as incredible as it is memorable.
PROVINCIAL HISTORY
Also on May 9, the Cánovas del Castillo Library will celebrate a new session of its cycle on the history of the province ’Eternal Malaga.’ Specifically, it will be at 7:00 p.m. with free admission until full capacity is reached.
On this occasion, the professor of Sciences and Historiographic Techniques and professor at the University of Malaga, Alicia Marchant Rivera, will offer a conference entitled ’Latin texts, heraldry, and escutcheon motives in the profession letters of the Malaga Cistercian,’ in which she will analyze the relationships between the female figure in seclusion, the writing process, and the documentary production carried out at the Cistercian Abbey of Santa Ana in Malaga between 1604 and 2009 –the date of its extinction as a religious community–, reviewing the Latin legends and the heraldic and escutcheon motives that mark the series of profession letters of the Malaga Cistercian.
On the other hand, on Friday, May 10, at 7:00 p.m., the book ’The Bubble Planet’ by Beatriz Ruiz González will be presented at the Cánovas del Castillo Library, narrating the journey of its two protagonists, Perico and Lolo, to discover the Bubble Planet. A book for adults and children that aims to recover creativity. The activity is aimed at adult audiences, and admission is free until full capacity is reached.
Also, on Friday, May 10, the cycle of concerts Pocket Classics will start in Tolox, where the Málaga Camerata ensemble will perform great symphonic works in string quartet format. In addition, their director, Santiago Otero, will explain to the audience the most outstanding details of each composition.
The program, about 70 minutes long, includes the first movement of Mozart’s ’Little Night Serenade,’ the first movement of Beethoven’s ’5th Symphony,’ Sibelius’ ’Sad Waltz,’ Bizet’s ’Aragonesa’ from the opera ’Carmen,’ and the overture of the opera ’The Barber of Seville’ by Rossini.
The event on May 10 will be at 8:15 p.m. at the Parish Church of San Miguel Arcángel in Tolox. The cycle will continue on May 16 at 6:00 p.m. at the interpretation center of Alcaucín and will conclude on May 31 at 7:45 p.m. at the Parish Church of San Lorenzo Mártir in Valle de Abdalajís. Admission is free until full capacity is reached.
Finally, on Friday, May 10, at 8:30 p.m., the MVA cultural center will welcome the Factoría Teatro company, which will premiere a text by Lope de Vega that has not been seen until now: ’The Marquis of the Navas,’ a comedy of courtly loves, romantic disappointments, and jealousy, but also a supernatural drama with sword duels, escapes, and specters, all through historical characters and real episodes of the court life of Philip II with its parties and galas.
The show combines ancient and traditional music with elements of dance, a rich period costume, and a careful visual presentation. Tickets can be reserved from 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 6, at mientrada.net.
