FreakCon-festivaali valmistautuu järjestämään näyttävimmän tapahtuman juhlistaakseen Frikin ylpeyden päivää Torremolinosissa (Málaga)

FreakCon, the International Festival of Manga, Comics, TV Series, and Video Games is set to celebrate its ”freakiest” edition to date coinciding with the celebration of Geek Pride Day on May 25th and 26th at the Congress Palace in Torremolinos (Málaga). It is there where the eighth edition of FreakCon will take place, an event designed to celebrate popular and geek culture in all its splendor.
The world of comics, anime, series, movies, literature, video games, Asian culture, K-Pop, cosplay, gastronomy, and geek entertainment will be represented with conferences, presentations, and shows for all audiences. The new format of the event features over 500 activities both outdoors and inside the venue, covering a total area of 70,000 square meters.
During the presentation, the Mayor of Torremolinos, Margarita del Cid, stated: ”It is a pride for us to host an event of this nature, which has such a high level of fidelity from thousands of people who love geek culture. It is well known that Torremolinos ends the month of May celebrating its pride in diversity.”
”I believe that with FreakCon, we expand this focus, starting with geek pride, which will lead to LGBT pride. Without a doubt, in Torremolinos, there is room for everything and everyone, because it is the place where everyone can be whatever they want to be,” added the mayor.
”Thanks to Kaijuu for reinventing the Congress Palace of Torremolinos, which will allow spending as much time here as desired, as there will be a dining area with original food trucks outdoors, creating an unprecedented atmosphere at a FreakCon. And thank you, in general, for the enthusiasm shown in these previous days and for believing that in this space, a new stage can begin for this event, which I am convinced will be a success,” Del Cid added.
Antonia Ledesma, Vice President of Citizenship and Territorial Balance of the Provincial Council of Málaga, said: ”In the last edition, there were more than 45,000 visitors, and I am convinced that this edition will be much more successful because the natural attraction that Torremolinos possesses will make it a special edition.”
”This event maintains an essence, a spirit, that makes it attractive to all audiences, but also connects with a modern, technological, diverse, and fun province that has been shaping up over the years, and Torremolinos, without a doubt, hand in hand with its mayor, is one of the driving forces in all these sectors,” added the councilor.
Finally, Mónica Ibars, director of FreakCon, ensures that it will be one of the editions that will be most remembered with one of the best lineups in its history: ”2024 will mark a before and after, and our commitment to bringing FreakCon to the outside has been essential for all audiences to enjoy new experiences.”
”Food trucks, performances, shows, gaming areas, and a completely fun atmosphere suitable for all ages will allow those who visit us to keep a beautiful memory of this beginning in Torremolinos,” she added.
Among the guests of this edition are writer Juan Gómez-Jurado; cosplayers like Enji Night, Eothen, or Nyukix; dubbing actors like Hermoti, Jon Samaniego, or Sergio Liébana; illustrators such as Salva Spin, 72 Kilos, Belén Ortega, or Antonio Lorente; or actors like Paco Tous who attends along with Javier Quintas, director of the new series ’Zorro’, among many other actors, artists, and influencers.
The 2024 edition of FreakCon is supported by the Torremolinos City Council, OXO Video Game Museum Málaga, Costa del Sol, and the Provincial Council of Málaga, as well as other sponsors and collaborators who make possible the celebration of the largest geek culture event in Spain. FreakCon will be open on both Saturday and Sunday from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm.
Tickets are on sale for ten euros for one day, or 18 euros for the entire festival, on the organization’s website www.freakcon.es There will also be ticket booths at the festival for those who have not purchased their tickets online.
